Water and Guard Tower Restoration and Reconstruction

Restoration and reconstruction of the 1942 water tower and tank on the site of the former Grenada War Relocation Center that served as a Japanese internment camp during WWII.

Project Scope

  • Reconstruction of original 75’ wooden water tower, including twelve new concrete piers, tank platform and roof
  • Reconstruction of one of original guard houses
  • Restoration of original 25,000 gallon redwood stave water tank utilizing original and reproduction staves
  • Steel compression ring and ogee washer system to support staves

Site Details

  • Listed on National Register of Historic Places
  • In operation as an internment camp from 1942-1944
  • Listed on Colorado’s Most Endangered Sites list in 2001
